The Metropolitan Police has confirmed it will close the public front counters at both Wimbledon and Mitcham police stations on Saturday 28th February. This means that Merton will have no police station where residents can walk in and speak to an officer face-to-face.

Instead, those needing in‑person police assistance will now have to travel to the counters at Sutton, Kingston, or Lavender Hill (Clapham Junction), all of which operate on limited hours. The nearest 24/7 police front counters will be at Charing Cross and Lewisham.

A petition has been launched to challenge this decision.
