King’s College School has acquired the site of the former Ursuline Prep School in the Downs and has been running consultation exercises on their proposal to build a new co-ed Junior School there. We commented after the first consultation and again after the second one.
Our main concern remains the change to the street view with the proposed buildings being taller and closer to the site edge than the existing buildings are, and not screened by trees and vegetation. We also think that there is an opportunity to achieve a Passivhaus level design which is a voluntary building performance standard for very high energy efficiency thus reducing carbon footprint.
