Margaret Noble to Sister Nivedita, from Wimbledon to Kolkata

A new statue has appeared in Wimbledon at the junction of Lake Rd and Leopold Rd. And if you are wondering who it commemorates it is Sister Nivedita, of Ramakrishna Vivekananda (1867-1911) born Margaret Noble and a one-time resident of Wimbledon.

The statute cites her as being a pioneer of women’s education and the political, cultural and intellectual  renaissance of India.
