We are expanding our outreach programme this year to include lifelong learning activities. For more information please contact our Lifelong Learning Lead, Anu Chanda at anuchanda@wimbledonsociety.org.uk

On Wednesday 6th December 2023, we held an outreach reminiscence and well-being session at the Merton Dementia Hub, inspired by the training received by Kayte West from the Memory Box Foundation earlier in the year.

Thanks go to Sandra Willans, Group Coordinator and Natalie Parsons, Dementia Friendly Communities Coordinator, Alzheimer’s Society, Merton, for their support.

The ‘Wednesday Group’ of visitors and their carers attending on the day participated in an interactive session down memory lane on the theme of ‘Entertainment’ – cinema, theatre, music and dance. They particularly enjoyed handling objects from the memory box and reliving and sharing their stories and experiences.

Visit from Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS)

On 3rd April 2024 CARAS visited the museum and participated in a very interactive session aimed to foster a sense of community. This very successful visit supported CARAS community members to learn more about local history and community events, while making new connections and improving well-being. The Roman objects displayed were of particular interest as the Romans traded everywhere, and attendees could perhaps recognise some objects from their own countries. Museum stories about Peek’s Peacock and the Suffragette campaign were enjoyed by all. There was a lively discussion about places to visit and enjoy that are free of charge, and this led on to a conversation about Spring festivals that they were celebrating. They took part in a printmaking activity on the theme of world foods and dishes.

We are grateful to Rosie Barry, Adult Programme Coordinator, CARAS, for arranging this wonderful community trip with us.
