Merton Council has created a temporary pedestrian and cycle zone in the western limb of the village High St between the main High St and Lingfield Rd. It will operate each Thursday to Saturday from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm and each Sunday from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm. It will start on 27 August and be for a trial period of 18 months. Full details of the scheme were posted in the Gazette.

The Council hope that this will create a better environment, space for businesses to spread on to the pavements and for the Farmers’ Market, currently in the Village Surgery car park, to thrive in an on-street setting.

As this is a trial, the Society will take a keen interest in it. Please contact us if you wish to give us any feedback on how it is proceeding.
