The Wimbledon Society applauds the Save Wimbledon Park Campaign.
Save Wimbledon Park (SWP) is pleased to read in the AELTC’s latest Community Newsletter of January 2025 that they accept that “the correct thing to do” is to invite the Courts to rule on whether the former golf course remains subject to a Statutory Public Recreation Trust (as eminent KCs advising both SWP and the GLA have concluded), whilst expressing confidence in their own legal advice that no such Trust exists.
But if we are to believe that the AELTC really are minded to do the ‘correct thing’ as landowners, why are they still pursuing their ambition to build their aggressive development and, in doing so, break a promise they gave to the community when they bought the land in 1993 with a legally binding Covenant that they wouldn’t build on it?
The ‘correct thing’ to do is to keep to your word.
