Saving Dorset Hall

Dorset Hall is a Grade II Listed, Georgian house on Kingston Road in Merton Park.  It is associated with Rose Lamartine Yates, an early suffragette, who lived there in the early twentieth century and who hosted other important members of the suffragette movement there.

It is owned by Clarion Housing but is in a poor state of repair after years of lying empty.  A local group is hoping to preserve it.

Because its state is continuing to deteriorate, Merton Council could enforce some basic repairs on the owner, and we have written to urge them to do this.  A copy of our letter is here.

We have also asked Historic England to add the building to their Buildings at Risk Register. Our letter is here.

Update 26 February 2021: We note that scaffolding has recently been erected and so presumably at least some emergency repairs are being undertaken.
